Brilliant Bess Friends Fundraising

Bess Friends graphic of cartoon head of a Border Terrier with the Bess Friends text underneath

We have news of another donation from Brian & Rebecca Shackleton and their brilliant fundraising through their Bess Friends Lytham St Anne's walking group on Facebook.

Multi-tasking fundraising

The donation of £220 made included various elements of fundraising with £65 from BTs on tour (a little weekend away), and the rest from sales of BTW Bags for Borders, Supporter Badges and Logo Stickers, along with donations and pie sales (yum!) from our June walk.

The walk was so well attended with approximately 40 people & 36 Borders, they had two groups to ensure Covid compliance - it's a good job the Border Terriers don't have to worry about social distancing though!

A few words from Brian

Both Brian and Rebecca are Border enthusiasts (as you can see from the above photo!), which led them to starting their Facebook group.  He says, "This is the third anniversary of our group, having been kindly introduced to organised Border walks when Bess was still pretty much a pup.  Our first was at Ullswater, but after that we chanced upon Jan Binn's Formby walk and we loved it, all off lead and racing around (great walk by the way, if you are ever near)."

He continues, "One day whilst walking on the beach just me Bec and Bess and just looking out at the massive arena we had before us, the idea struck us - 'why don't we try one, you never know people may come'.   So with no [Facebook] page, just piggy backing off the Border Terrier owners page, we created a walk and you know what ten folk came along (you know who you are) and we had a blast!  We held another and more people came, so this carried on enough to warrant us making our Bess Friends walk group page.  Somebody then suggested we raise funds for BTW, so we tried that as well ... thanks to you all, in less than three years we've raised thousands of pounds in donations (I will get a total number soon!)."

Brian finishes up by saying a huge thank you to their friends, "Me, Bec and Bess would just like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has taken part over the years for contributing, donating and coming and trying our walk, we consider every one of you as friends and think ourselves lucky to have such a nice group."

We certainly look forward to hearing about their exploits over the next three years and more!

A huge thank you from Border Terrier Welfare

Border Terrier Welfare Chairman, Tony Wrenn, comments, "We are hugely grateful to Brian, Rebecca and friends for their continued support, as their donations help us in our work to provide assistance to Border Terriers in need.  Thank you from all of us at BTW for your creative fundraising efforts and we hope you enjoyed the pies!"
